Our Story

The Gade Farm is a family farm that has been in continuous operation since 1878, when it was purchased by Peter and Mary Gade. As the family grew, so did the farm. Together, three of Peter and Mary's boys—Frank, John, and George— ran the farm, planting a variety of vegetables and selling them at the Menands Market.

In 1967, with the farm in its third generation, Jack Gade started wholesaling plants. In 1970, he and his wife Louise opened up a retail greenhouse.

The fourth generation of Gades, including current owners John and Jim, have expanded the farm into a full-service garden center that sells a wide variety of annuals, vegetables, herbs, perennials, roses, shrubs, trees, and gardening supplies.

In 1992, the Gades built the Farm Stand, where you'll find Gade Farm's own freshly harvested produce, as well as a wide variety of locally and regionally produced products, including meats, cheeses, sauces, jams, and crafts. Since adding the Bakery in 2009, Gade Farm has been making cider donuts and fudge in-house, as well as offering locally made pies, breads, and other baked goods.

Now, as the fifth generation prepares to enter the business, Gade Farm continues to live out its slogan, "We're growing for you..."

Here at Gade Farm, we strive to provide our customers and community with a source of high-quality homegrown produce and plants, as well as gardening supplies and locally made goods. Our goal is to provide exceptional customer service and share our knowledge and expertise so that you, our customers, will be successful and loyal.  We believe that maintaining a strong interest in and commitment to our employees, customers, and community and being responsible stewards of the land are vital to our success.
